The History of Wimborne Market

Wimborne market has had a big influence on the growth and success of the town and surrounding countryside regions over the years.

Since it was founded by Thomas Ensor in 1860, the Wimborne Market has grown to become one of the largest and most famous open and covered markets in the south of England and has an impressive 165 years of trading under its belt. The indoor market and antiques bazaar covers approximately 35,000 square feet and accommodates over 200 mixed traders and car booters giving you plenty of choice when you come to visit!

Today you will find a large assortment of boutiques, cafés and restaurants which have sprung up around this popular site. In total, the market covers to approximately five acres and includes a large multi-storey car park. It is a good idea to plan your trip carefully to ensure you get the most out of the market and cover as much ground as possible!

Our top trips and traders

The Friday market opens from 7.00am until 2.30pm every week. The farmers market and large antiques bazaar have to be our favourite picks, where there’s fresh fruit and veg, homemade sourdough loaves and gorgeous restored antique furniture available to purchase.

The Saturday flea market and car boot sale are full of interesting bargains which differ from week to week. They both run every Saturday alongside the general outside market, the indoor stalls and the antiques bazaar. The market gates open at 7.30am and close at 2.00pm on Saturdays, so swing by early if you want to catch the best deals!

On Sundays the large general market combines with the outside market, car boot, indoor stalls and the antiques bazaar, and trades from 9.00am to 2.30pm.
