Across Berkshire, where our Renaissance Crowthorne and Wokingham communities are located, lies the picturesque South Hill Park, a grand 24- acre English country house which now hosts the South Hill Park Arts Centre.

Katie Greet, Marketing Campaigns Officer at South Hill Park Centre tells us more about the ‘Creative Heart of Berkshire’ and their upcoming series of activities which the wider Berkshire community will be able to enjoy in the next few months.

Could you tell us about South Hill Parks Arts Centre and your role?

As a registered charity it is our mission to; create experiences to engage the community and connect people to others, ideas and the world around us. We look to inspire lifelong love of arts and culture, provide opportunities for learning and participation to enrich lives and nurture talent, and celebrate artists of today and develop artists of tomorrow.

My role at South Hill Park is the Marketing Campaigns Officer. This involves managing the campaign plans for events coming up at the Arts Centre including social media plans, email campaigns and liaising with the press.

How long has the centre been established and what activities do you tend to run?

We have been serving the community of Bracknell and surrounding areas for almost 50 years, housing two theatres, a dance studio, creative spaces and a cinema within the grounds of an 18th century mansion house. We host over 300 shows, events and films each year, alongside a busy programme of courses and workshops for all ages in arts and crafts, drama, dance and more. We also display thought-provoking exhibitions throughout the year. This all allows us to provide the community with a creative and inspiring space to develop skills, socialise, and enjoy all that the arts have to offer.

We also host corporate, community or private events, including weddings, with an in-house catering company providing refreshments and a delicious menu whether you are visiting for an event, dinner before a show, or lunch out with friends.

What upcoming activities can we look forward to?

On Sunday 29 and Monday 30 August we will be welcoming visitors to our free Festival of Food and Music, where we showcase local music and fantastic food.

We also have an entertainment filled Autumn-Winter programme coming up, including our award-winning pantomime, which will be Cinderella (Fri 26 Nov 2021 – Mon 3 Jan 2022) this year. The annual Craft Fair will be returning in November, which is a great opportunity to celebrate local artists and businesses, as well as providing an opportunity to buy beautiful Christmas gifts.

Do you work with other local Berkshire groups?

Many amateur and professional groups utilise the Arts Centre and the beautiful grounds and gardens. These include Berkshire based dance schools, amateur dramatic societies and fitness groups. The venue is home to three theatre-based organisations, the Bracknell Forest wedding ceremony registrars and a third party caterer. South Hill Park works with many local schools and plans to develop working relationships with a number of Berkshire charities.

What is your favourite thing about Berkshire?

Personally, I think it has to be the beautiful outdoor spaces. It’s lovely to walk in the grounds of South Hill Park or explore the countryside across Berkshire. Plus, there’s so many opportunities to enjoy the arts without the expense or stress of travelling too far.
