The Role

The General Counsel will head up our legal and compliance team to ensure that the PegasusLife group meets its legal obligations. It will also ensure that we have a robust commercial and contracting approach, that we obtain best value for money in all our contracting activity and that the business grows and develops in line with the strategic business plan to achieve its commercial objectives.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for providing professional legal advice and guidance to our teams on a wide range of land, development, construction and facilities management matters. You will also support our sales, marketing and customer experience functions and support the business with all corporate matters, including any future corporate acquisitions.

Crucially, you will often be the “face” of the PegasusLife Group, and will hold an ambassadorial role with key stakeholders including investors, funders, suppliers and customers, to ensure our reputation for quality is backed up by our reputation for excellent and ethical business dealings including our commitment to the Housebuilder Consumer Code.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, with at least 7 years PQE gained at a leading national or international law firm or within an equivalent in-house department. You’ll have previous experience leading an in-house team within a fast growth environment.

Other required skills and experience for this position include:

  • Real Estate and Construction experience is particularly important
  • Experience of property and/or infrastructure development, especially land, planning and/or construction contracts
  • Experience of project and/or property and/or corporate finance advantageous
  • Previous professional administrative and commercial experience in a Company Secretarial role is preferable
  • An approachable manner, with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Commercially aware and astute approach
  • A well considered problem-solving approach
  • Ability to effectively persuade and influence

Location, Salary & Benefits

This role comes with a competitive basic salary, car allowance and bonus, alongside a benefits package including enhanced annual leave, life assurance, private medical insurance, Healthshield, and a contributory pension.

It will be based from our Head Office in Winchester, although there will be frequent travel to our other offices and developments.
